ICT's Tool Review: Google Classroom

Google Classroom(https://classroom.google.com) is a free web platform, in which you can create an online classroom.

This tool is relevant to language learning because, in here, you can send homework, share videos, or anything you want to do. It can also be associated with the Flipped Classroom method; you can send information to your students before the next class, for them to come to class knowing the information needed for the class, in order to just do exercises on class time. It also notifies you, through e-mail and smartphone.

I believe this tool can be best used with teenagers and adults, because it requires the students to be independent in their process of learning, and children are to young to be able to do that.

It is possible to work every single one of the needed abilities in the English class:

  1. You can open a space to share audio files, so the students had to practice speaking
  2. You can ask the students to upload a Google Docs file, so they practice writing.
  3. You can upload videos, for the students to watch and listen to them.
  4. You can upload a paper, for the students to read.

The only limmitation I see, and taking into account the fact that is almost perfect for Flipped classrooms, is that I think it should have the possibility to chat and videocall classmates or the teacher.

Comments

  1. Since I'm studying at the university, some teachers have introduced their courses through Google Classroom. The features and the options that Google Classroom brings emulate quite well a real classroom environment in which the teacher can post material, presentations, videos, and assignments and the learners can comment and accomplish the different tasks.
